Cluttons
A modern property platform with faster search, flexible content management and room to grow
International surveyors and property consultants Cluttons faced challenges with an outdated website and a rigid CMS that constrained their ability to adapt and grow. To stay competitive in a market increasingly shaped by convenience and practicality, they needed a flexible, high-performance platform capable of supporting new functionality, simplifying content updates and maintaining brand cohesion across the main website and future sub-sites.
A flexible, modular WordPress platform
Working alongside Cluttons’ design partner, we delivered a custom WordPress website built around a modular architecture that prioritises scalability and performance. A reusable block system gives their team greater editorial freedom while maintaining consistency across the site.
By minimising reliance on third-party plugins, we also created a lightweight codebase that improves performance and security while remaining easier to maintain and extend. This robust foundation enables Cluttons to introduce new features without being restricted by the underlying platform.
Integrated property data and search
We integrated several property APIs to automate the retrieval of accurate, real-time property data, reducing manual input and maintaining consistency across the website and other digital platforms.
A multi-faceted filtering system gives users a clearer and more intuitive way to search for properties, with functionality tailored to the needs of Cluttons’ residential and commercial audiences.
One codebase, supporting multiple brands
To improve efficiency and reduce costs, we designed the codebase so it could also support Cluttons’ investment management brand, Cluttons IM. This removed the need to build and maintain an entirely separate platform, while allowing both brands to benefit from the same scalable, well-optimised technical foundation.
Design refresh
Following the successful rebuild of the Cluttons website, we carried out a post-launch evaluation to assess its real-world performance. The platform was already structurally sound, scalable and extensible, but user feedback and performance data revealed opportunities to refine the design and improve the overall experience. This iterative approach combined the strength of the underlying technology with user-focused design, ensuring the website could continue to evolve alongside the business.
Key areas of improvement included:
Navigation overhaul
We streamlined the menu design to improve clarity and usability, introducing a stronger visual hierarchy, more intuitive dropdown behaviour and a better mobile experience.
Property search redesign
We simplified the search widget with clearer labels and inputs, while introducing a toggle between residential and commercial searches. Reduced friction and more focused filtering made the search experience faster and easier to use.
Valuation form improvements
Recognising the importance of the valuation form, we improved its visibility, styling and discoverability. The design was simplified to encourage more enquiries while retaining a professional appearance.
Homepage optimisation
The hero section was redesigned to give greater prominence to the property search widget, making it immediately visible without scrolling. More focused calls to action were also introduced to guide users towards key journeys.
