Food Matters Live

Food Matters Live is a global community changing the future of food, drink, and nutrition. They do this through events, podcasts, masterclasses, and industry news. Their off-the-shelf virtual events platform was too restrictive. They needed a website rebuild that would integrate their four sub-brands, drive traffic and increase visitor retention. Enhancements included the ability for attendees, speakers, and brands to schedule 1-1 video calls. Users also need the ability to follow authors and speakers within the platform.

We created a new WordPress site using bespoke React.js Gutenberg blocks in partnership with the client’s design partner, Curious. Our team programatically migrated, and produced redirect instructions for over 9,500 pages drawn from their three legacy sites.

For the virtual events system we created a custom platform with a headless Laravel back-end and a React front-end. Building the platform from scratch ensured that all it could be tailored exactly to the client’s needs. For example, an integration with the Vonage API for user networking capabilities, and graceful Google or Outlook calendar integrations. Their previous events registration system didn’t allow for user accounts that worked across events, therefore many users had multiple accounts. Our team mapped user and speaker data to their respective events and created consolidated accounts for each user.
